This is not the first time Hollywood has come knocking at Reichl’s door: Eight years ago, the writer said she was working on turning her memoir about being a NYT critic, Garlic and Sapphires, into a movie. “I was working with the writer, and asked how long she envisioned each segment being, and she said it really doesn’t matter, because people binge-watch them, so the first one will be an hour, and the next one can be 40 minutes.” Netflix has not released any information about the project, but based on this interview, it sounds like the series is still in the very early planning stages. “Netflix just bought Comfort Me With Apples, to do an eight-part series,” Reichl told Vulture. The food world legend revealed plans for the TV adaptation of her second memoir Comfort Me With Apples this week while promoting her newest autobiographical work Save Me the Plums. Former Gourmet editor and New York Times critic Ruth Reichl says that a memoir about her early days as a food writer is going to be the subject of a new eight-part series on Netflix.
